Fascistic CyberNats: a tiny fringe?

Winnie Ewing: “The unionist parties ... whilst claiming to be Scottish, don’t wish for their country the normal freedom that every world citizen expects for their country.” (my bold)

Veteran SNP activist and CyberNat 'Miss H': “Non-nationalists are less ‘Scottish’ than nationalists ... Bashir Ahmad for example is more Scottish than Wendy Alexander. He may have been born and brought up in Pakistan but he wants Scotland to be an independent self-governing sovereign state and she doesn’t. That makes him more Scottish than she is...”

SNP member and CyberNat 'Democracy', on his hopes for independence: “When the dust settles there will be an exodus of English and pro-union Scots (aka. English)packing their pro-union bags and heading southward...”

So I guess I class myself as a pro-union Scottish politico.

I can under no sence of the word class myself as English however. My roots are in Northern Ireland although I am an incoming from....wait for it....Scottish roots.

In Wales, if we do not support Plaid Cymru and their Nationalist philosophy the label "Anti-Welsh" is fixed to your forehead.

I do not wonder about their version of a nation state But i do wonder about their state of mind.

"Power doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the people. You are the people's servants, and when you use power poorly, the people will take it away from you. That has to be made clear to the people when one criticizes the government, and that we have certainly done."

The allegedly 'social democratic' 'left of centre' nats will hate the comparison but it is a valid one nonetheless. Their tactic of deriding anybody and everybody who disagrees with them as 'anti-Scottish' (or anti-Welsh in the case of Plaid) or 'traitors' is remarkably similar to the rants of the far right all over the world. One only has to look at the comments of Sarah Palin in the USA who talks about visiting the 'pro-American' parts of that country.

By implication those who disagree with her are 'anti-American' the same way we who have the temerity to question our Dear Leader are 'anti-Scottish.'

Impugning opponents motives by questioning their patriotism has a long and dishonourable tradition. In this, as in almost everything they say and do, there is nothing original in the Nationalist position and no amount of rhetoric can hide the fact.

Personally, I think the last truly progressive nationalist IN EUROPE was Garibaldi. It's been downhill from around 1870 onwards.

    Stonemason:

    Type the following into Google...

    site:snp.org "anti-scottish"

You'll find about 75 instances of the equivalent term being used on the SNP's website.

From thinking that non-nationalists are "anti-Scottish", it isn't much of a mental leap to consider us all to be racist against Scots, and indeed that's a charge which I've seen levelled on numerous occasions.

Talking of "fascistic" cybernats - this morning I came across the genuine article:

    http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/latestnews/First-banks-then-firms-now.4634296.jp

    "13 suchaparcelofrogues, Scotland 28/10/2008 07:30:12

    3

None of em are Trots you lying little fascist biggot you they are as right wing as your loving yiddish government and just as corrupt and self serving."

"parcel" is a notoriously illogical, intemperate and foul-mouthed Nat cyberloony.

The "loving yiddish" comment was reported to the Hootsmon by another and, apparently, the ID banned.

The twerp later popped up as "notaparcelofrogues" and made the elementary error of attempting to defend the earlier remark. Bing! This ID, and all its posts, are thankfully gone too.

Not for long, I expect, but the respite is welcome.

The respite was only a few hours.

The anti-Semite is back, now as "suchaboxofspanners" (which was a name I actually coined for it).

    Sigh.

  8. sm753 October 28, 2008 7:10 PM

Well, "spanners" has now been zinged (not by me) but the foul anti-Semite has now returned again, as (believe it or not":

    "suchalovingyiddishposter".

This may be there for a while as no doubt the Hootsmon mods are no longer on duty.

The only upside is that this person's vile views are being fully exposed.

Hopefully my last update on this, as the future pattern looks to be wearisomely set.

See the thing about these endless boring debates about British-ness, Scottish-ness, English-ness, who is what, who is allowed to tell who what, nationality, identity, ethnicity etc etc.

Independence would put an end to that kind of debate forever."

    Hail to the Volk, etc.
