Following the images and footage released earlier this month showing SNP councillor Jahangir Hanif with five of his children firing an AK-47 assault rifle at what was termed a “military style camp” in Pakistan, today’s Sunday Herald reports that an SNP disciplinary committee has found him guilty of contravening the party’s code of conduct. But the committee refused to expel Cllr Hanif from the SNP, instead issuing a mere two-month suspension, about half of which has already been served. After all, he was only facing a relatively minor charge: “conduct likely to cause damage to or hinder the Party's proper pursuit of its aims”.
Unrelated to that, Cllr Hanif owns a small flat in Glasgow’s Westmoreland Street and rents it to a Romanian family. The street is so squalid that, according to the Daily Record, locals call it Ground Zero. So why, I wonder, has there been no disciplinary hearing about his public admission that he has “tried to put the street at the top of the political agenda”?

What amazes me is the propensity of the snp Cybernats to defend this man. They are quiet content to see someone commit if not an illegal act an immoral one. Given the snps stated position on the ownership and use of guns.
The idea of an Independent scotland Governed by a party who are blind to illegality (or misbehavior)of their own members is not a prospect to look forward too.
I know it is old hat to say what if a unionist Muslim had done the same but it is still true none the less.
all I can say is the snp have no respect for the law.
He never admitted that he had a flat there until he was found out by the newspapers. He wanted to reap the increase in value to his property by an improvement in the street, without letting anyone know he had a personal interest. This is immoral and underhand, he should have been sacked but the SNP failed to take action. He also rents his flat to a struggling homeless romanian family and charges them extortionate rent, because he knows it would be hard for them to find a place elsewhere.
